Get To Know…. Jonny Horner

Mike Brown2 Jan - 16:48

“Quickstep”

This evening we caught up with hot stepper Jonny Horner.

How old were you when you started playing rugby?

5 years old playing tag rugby.

What was your first rugby memory?

My first ever game of tag rugby for Mowden against Middlesbrough at their place.

Who was your role model and why?

My grandad; everything I aspire to be as a person is because of him.

Can you remember your first training session with Billingham?

Funny one this, as I did one pre season session with Billingham the year they got promoted but I ended up staying at Stockton. However, I ended up at Billingham again a year later and thoroughly enjoyed the quality of rugby and the lads involved.

What do you eat before a big match?

High calorie smoothie plus a few flapjacks on the side.

Describe your perfect weekend.

Good lie in Saturday morning; warm sunny win at Greenwood Road; a few beers after the game with the lads. Sunday is recovery day on the sofa with some rugby on and then a Liverpool win in Super Sunday.

What’s been your career highlight?

I’ve been fortunate to have a few highlights in my career, but my proudest achievement would be playing in the final of the county championship down at Ealing Trailfinders with my family watching me play on TV and being lucky enough to score in that game.

What one tip would you give a young person looking to succeed?

Work hard, it will be tough, you will have a lot to prove but if you have a goal or dream then don’t let anything stop you. Nothing better than proving people wrong.

What’s the next goal in your rugby career?

To continue playing at the highest level of rugby I can and hopefully reach some meaningful milestones at Billingham.
