A successful Ladies Day and new friends in Cleckheaton RUFC.

Ladies, you did us proud. Not only did you look beautiful but you did as asked and made an impression on Cleckheaton RUFC. So for those that missed out – last Saturday was Ladies Day. A group of regular supporters and their friends sponsored the 1st XV game on Saturday and what a day it turned out to be. The day started with some stunning dresses and ended with some stunned at the undressed!

Their day started with a glass of bubbly and a healthy buffet. Thanks to the 1st XV for putting on a winning performance; 32:11, especially for those young ladies attending for the first time. It’s amazing how players can perform when their girlfriends are there to watch eh Craig?? It was a cold afternoon but this did not stop the girls wearing some beautiful dresses and drawing the attention of some of the more senior Cleckheaton supporters. A couple of gentlemen admitted that they had some steamy moments! The winner of the best hat competition was Pauline Shepherd and it was a tough call between her and Katy – bit of a family day all round. Check out the photos on the photo page.

Ladies and winning performances aside, Saturday will be remembered for a different reason. Something happened on Saturday that in this day of high pressure league rugby and in some cases professional rugby, the old fashioned values and the spirit of rugby get lost. And it is for that reason that I would like to say that in Cleckheaton RUFC we have found a new friend. I left the club at about 7:30 pm on Saturday and the snug was packed to the rafters. Wagga was just starting Sunshine mountain and we had already had a good hour of singing. Apparently the Cleckheaton bus left at about 9:45pm to return home after a good old fashioned rugby night. For those ladies that stayed on and enjoyed the evening I understand they were introduced to Father Abraham, Alouetta, and a few other songs including the strange obsession of rugby players whom like to drink and sing with no clothes on!!! I know we made some friends with Cleckheaton and I just hope that some of our younger lads were at the front impressing those Ladies who were attending for the first time.

There is no better place than the Snug on a Saturday night after a match and especially with new friends.

Ladies thank you for coming and sponsoring the game and I understand there are plans already a foot for another game in the New Year.

Cleckheaton RUFC, thank you for your company and we look forward to seeing you all once again on the 28th January – I have already sorted my pass for the night.
