Before he ventures off to coach County U18s we caught up Mr IPA himself Dan Burns.
A dedicated, committed back rower who will put his body on the line for the team irrespective of the consequences!
1. How old were you when you started playing rugby?
I was 14 when I started playing at school
2. What was your first rugby memory?
Playing under 15's at York as a prop and being told I wasn't going to make the first team
3. Who was your role model and why?
Chris Hyndman, the blokes passion and effort sums up what everyone should aim to be like
4. Can you remember your first training session with Billingham?
I definitely remember my first training session, being in a group with two hyndmans, two Evans' and two chimps (sheps) having to keep up with them running around a pitch was baptism of fire
5. What do you eat before a big match?
Same as usual, bacon and mushroom sarnie with a cuppa can't go wrong with that really
6. Describe your perfect weekend.
My perfect weekend would consist of:
Friday, having a fish and chip supper with family
Saturday, bacon bun, playing rugby and winning by the way, having a few scoops with the boys, John smiths, bread and ale will do but only a few, a potential trip to flares followed by a takeaway.
Sunday, a morning in bed followed by more bacon watching cooking programmes about bacon and an afternoon out eating
7. What’s been your career highlight?
My career highlight(s) playing at Twickenham with the county even though we lost, still one to savour and winning silverware in the county Cup first time I'd won anything like that
8. What one tip would you give a young person looking to succeed
Any advice, don't watch me pass/attempt to pass....watch the backs and a bloke once told me "look at this bloke, his skills are s**t but he puts 100% into everything" wasn't sure how to translate that but I think it means hard work pays off.....
9.What’s the next goal in your rugby career?
Next goal is to help get Bill above Mowden and help us to stay there
Keep up the good work Dan
