We’re coming to the start of the season for 24/25. How have you spent your off season?
Probably enjoyed it a little too much haha, a couple of holiday away with the family. It was a nice break even given my lack of games compared to some of the other lads haha. But with my new job giving me a far better balance I’m looking forward to playing more again.
I did enjoy playing at the 7’s tournament we hosted as well, which to me was a pre pre season
Last season was difficult juggling work, family and rugby. Despite those what was your individual highlight for last season?
No major individual highlight to be honest, but I enjoyed coming back into the mix for the back end of the season when backs were against the wall and we knew what was at stake to stay up. The wharfdale game at home was a real war and the crowd was second to none which got us over the line. I’d say that was a huge turning point that sparked us into life.
What was your highlight of someone else?
Like I say I only managed the start and end of the season but coming back into the mix seeing Tom Campbell, how he developed was insane. It’ll be epic seeing him push on even more this year as well. He’s a freak of nature.
You played Nat 2 previously. I’m interested to know if there was any difference in standard ‘now’ compared to ‘then’?
Very much the same, fast paced, structured and very physical at times. In this league if you give a team an inch they’ll take a mile and punish you big time for it.
Knowing the demands of National Rugby, How will you develop your performance moving forward?
I’m working on physically been ready for the season ahead, like I say with a new job I’ve got more to give playing now so I want to be ready physically so I can put my best foot forward for the lads. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to commit properly due to work etc but this season will hopefully get me out on the pitch a lot more. Pre season is going well and the lads are putting a shift in, at training and away from the club so come game 1 we are going to be ready to go!
I think this season as well I want to put a big emphasis on my game management and affecting the game as much as I can positively.
Goals for the season ahead?
Get as much time out on the pitch as possible, hopefully bag a few tries, stay injury free and mainly enjoy playing rugby again with my mates. Obviously goes without saying, blow a few teams away as well.
Who are you looking forward to facing this season?
Fylde will be one, to come up against Mike! Tynedale at home Christmas jumper night will be a banger as well!
What does a pre matching morning look like?
Very much depends, either peel myself out of bed if I’ve been on a night shift haha! If not working then wake up, chill out, crush a can of relentless in the car on route to the club with music blasting.
Why chose Billingham?
It’s got the best facility’s in the north by far, its second to none with what we have at the club. Very much freedom to play as well, making it a lot more fun. We take it seriously but we have a license to play rugby everywhere.
Great set of lads here and I’ve got some friends for life from this place.
