Good first run out for the u14s unfortunately was more of a 12s based game but
nevertheless the girls played what’s in front of them and did what they needed to do.
Decided to play the game as 3rds rather than half’s so we could accommodate a
very new Guisborough side. Playing 10 a side the First 3rd went how we thought and
was one way traffic with 15 mins played it was 40-0 and getting very close to the
dreaded 50-point gap. Made the choice to send McKenna, Summer and Orla over to
them making Guisborough 13 players and we went up to 11. The Second 3rd was
totally different, our girls gave them a bit of confidence and gave them belief, our
girls were very physical for them which allowed Guisborough to find their spaces and
took advantage of the extra girls ending the 3rd 50-30.
Before the last 3rd we swapped the 3 girls playing for them and spoke to the girls
about breakdown and line speed and not getting dragged too much into the 12s style
of play, they listened and very quickly add the points to stop the game 10 mins early,
thank you to grace for pointing it out (I’d lost count)
Guisborough gave their player of the match to McKenna who was fantastic for both
teams, and we chose 2 players who stood out for us as coaches both girls had
mixed preseasons and at times struggled with the contact elements. But today were
different players both wanted to carry the ball forward and put everything into their
contact and tackling. Massive round of applause for Janice and Liv! Big thank you to
the 6 girls who played for Guisborough, their coaches spoke very highly of you
shining example of the girls we have at the club!
