Saturday we welcome Otley to Greenwood Road.
Not an unfamiliar opposition having played them 4 times previously in recent years with Otley winning on 3 of those occasions.
Despite Otleys league position, don’t be fooled…
An opening day away victory against Hull 12-13 then a 20-24 loss to league favourites Leeds Tykes. Scoring against Leeds is tough but to score 20 points is not really heard of.
Otley are coached very well and have a settled core group of players and have made some useful additions to their squad.
Some background on Ofley -
Otley RUFC was founded in 1865 but broke away from rugby union in 1900 to become a rugby league club. They disbanded in 1906 and reformed as a rugby union club in 1907, the ground being at Wharfeside. In 1909–10 they won the Yorkshire Challenge Cup. Play was suspended during the First World War, but started again in 1919, and on 28 September 1921 they moved to a new and better ground at Cross Green, Otley.
In 1979 the stadium was the site of a famous victory by the North of England against the New Zealand ″All Blacks″. The Wallabies suffered the same fate in October, 1988. Cross Green hosted one group game of the 1991 Rugby World Cup, between the United States and Italy which was won by Italy 30–9.
What about Billingham?
Billingham are on the back of a win and a draw themselves and will be keen to make Greenwood Road a fortress. This week will see changes to to the squad due to unavailability but have notable players ready to take a step forward.
Expect this to be a fast and frantic game with both teams likely to want to throw the ball around and score some tries.
We need your support. We need your voice.
