Billingham v DMP
7th November 2021
Kick off 10:45
Billingham RUFC welcomed DMP to Greenwood road on a very blustery, sunny Sunday morning. Billingham kicked off and from the resulting kick off the DMP receiver was quickly brought to ground by Adey Barnes and Riley Ward setting the tone for the rest of the match. Through the next passage of play Billingham knocked on and from the resulting scrum a fantastic steal and great awareness from Max Piercy sent Freddie Gardner down the wing to run in the first try for Billingham.
Billingham ran in another two tries before some slack defending let DMP in for their first try of the match. Billingham responded with a very fortunate try via Joe Syson as video replay showed a slight knock on before he ran it under the post. With the last play of the first third, a well rehearsed training drill between the forwards Joe Browell, Riley Ward and Charlie Evans led to Charlie finishing it off in style and giving Billingham a 5-1 lead.
The second third of the game was much of the same with Billingham scoring 4 tries, although the team were reduced to 12 players when they were penalised for several high tackles!
Going into the last 20 minutes of play Billingham scored early through the determination of Joe Browell. Then suddenly DMP scored 2 tries very quickly due to a mad 5 minutes from Billingham where the ball seemed to be like a hot potato and the DMP number 12, who was their best player was at the fore front of both resulting tries. Billingham regained composure and through some hard tackling and better handling sent Freddie Gardner down the wing to score the final tries.
We would like to thank DMP for a hard fought, entertaining game and are looking forward to next weeks challenge away at Percy Park. Well done to our 2 man of the matches chosen by the DMP coaches – Joe Browell and Freddie Gardner and thank you to Richie Morris for being the ref today.
